Fence will be accepting submissions during an open submission window from February 1 through March 31 2018. Submissions will be accepted in the categories of Poetry, Fiction, and Other.
Please note that in 2017, Fence modified its submission guidelines, so even if you have submitted to Fence in the past, it is important that you review submission guidelines for the category in which you submit.
The Fence Modern Prize in Prose is a contest for open-form prose projects of any length written in English. Genres rotate between criticism, hybrid nonfiction, poetics, biography, autobiography, speculation, and anything Other. Previous winners include Hilary Plum, Ottessa Moshfegh, and Mark Baumer. The 2019 FMPP will be awarded to a prose memoir and published in 2020.
The submission fee is $29, and all entrants receive a subscription or renewal to Fence.
The Ottoline Prize awards publication and $5,000 to a book-length work of poetry by a woman writing in English who has previously published one or more full-length books of poetry.
